Ever since Woodstock, for the past 2 weeks or something, part of my right ankle/heel has been hurting a little bit during my runs. It's usually tight in the beginning and then is fine by the end. When I stretch it (which is pretty much never), it feels super tight like something needs to be worked out. Then I found out that if I run with a better stride and land more on the balls of my feet, it doesn't hurt. Does that mean I've just been slamming my heels down on the ground with every stride? That sounds gross. But now that I put more pressure on the balls of my feet, I got a blister on the top of my left toe. I'll be danged!
So bottom line- can I just keep ignoring it and running differently or do I need to do something about it? Lord knows I don't wanna stretch regularly. And why is it only my right ankle? Weird.

Hey Clara, Not sure about all the ankle business but I would think running with a different than your natural stride may pose more problems. I saw you asked about socks on Chris's blog. If you have not tried them Drymax has worked well for me and others I know. Congrats on your 100 mile finish. Peace EricG
If you have never had the problem before it might be just your body telling you it still has a little left over fatigue from the race. It was 100 miles.
My wife & I will be down in your neck of the woods Halloween weekend. We will not put the Scream park on our list of things to do.
Later.
Hey Eric- Thanks! Good point about changing up the stride. However, I think that this new stride involves better form and I've just been too lazy to keep it up in the past. I have tried one type of Drymax and was not happy with them. I think my prob is that I just don't have enough practice on trails. :/
Bernie: True points, too. Hmm. What are you guys doing next weekend? I'm glad you won't go to that "haunted house"! Ha!
When you live in a little town like Bluffton it is fun to go and spend a weekend in Indy. We are coming down with another couple to just chill and have some fun. I was looking, not to many places to run is there?
Later.
That sounds like fun! If you're staying near downtown- the main place to run is around the canal but it's not a big loop or you can hook up to the monon from downtown but the first 10 miles are in a funky area. I might be going to IL this weekend but if not, maybe we could hook up for a run if you wanted.
Hi Clara,
I have also been having trouble since the 100 mile run. For me its been my shins, first both hurt really badly, I could hardly walk. After a couple weeks of icing them down, they got better enough to try a run, but I went 15 miles and it started to hurt and by 18 miles I had to stop. I got my first ever DNF. I'm back to babying it, and I'm going to try speed walking this weekend, I hope it works, I'm getting tired of sitting around.
We are staying downtown at the Westin. I'm down for going for a run if you are around and maybe if it works out you and your husband could meet the wife and I for a beer somewhere. You getting ready for another race? You have been putting in the miles.
Bernie- Too bad it's a Colts buy week this week otherwise you could get hyped with everyone downtown. I'll be in town this weekend; how early are you up for running and how long are you wanting to go? I can do any distance/time tomorrow and on Sunday, I'd need to be home by 9am. Let me know what you think; no pressure.
Nope...no near-future races planned yet; just trying to burn off my ice cream calories I consume everyday.
Beer with the spouses sounds fun but unfortunately my husband already has plans so he won't be at home. Thanks anyway.
Bill: No entiendo inglés. Qué te pasó? :) Pues, siento que tengas problemas, hombre, y que no pudiste terminar la carrera. Qué lástima! Cuídate!
Sorry....not this weekend next weekend, Halloween weekend.
No Dallas Clark the rest of the year...
not cool.
