5.5 mile run

I didn't want to procrastinate and so I ran the remaining 5.5 miles this morning. It was like yesterday- nice out and good to be out there alone. Although I've run 40 miles this week, it seems like I've been going verrrry slow. For all of the miles, I averaged probably 8:20-8:50 minute miles. I'll work on that.

Clara,

While it is training rememebr, a 12 min pace is amazing in a 100 miler. You will need to transition your mind after Boston.

That's true....but shouldn't I still be working on speed runs so that it can all be stretched out among the 100 miles? ORRRR, will it not matter how slow I run during training because of the long distance?

You need to practice long slow runs, so on race day you're able to run long and slow. That's easier said than done. If you do all your training at sub 10 minute pace and tell your self you'll go slow on race day, it ain't gonna happen. Speed work is good, but make sure you get in those slow trail miles, too. Practice running slow on fresh legs, that's just as difficult as running on tired legs! Learn what it feels like to run at a 12 minute pace on fresh legs, so you don't go out on race day and run your first 10 miles on the gravel road at a 9 minute pace. Don't try to bank time in the early miles, it will only come back to haunt you later on. Run consistent and even.

Josh- very good point! I just always assumed it'd be easy to run at a slow pace (w/o training like that), but you're right; it's always tempting to run faster. hmmm. Gracias!
